Opt out of Georgia state tax withholding
I am moving overseas as a Federal Employee married to an Active Duty person. Can I OPT OUT of paying Georgia State Tax since I will not be living and/or working in the state for over 3 years? If so, what do I have to do to OPT OUT of paying Georgia State taxes? Please help!

    Unfortunately, no.

In order to CEASE being a Georgia resident, you must establish residency in another state or country. As a federal employer married to Active Duty military, you are retaining your U.S. citizenship and residency and, by default, Georgia residency.

    AtlantaTaxExpert,
Thanks for that. If I cannot change my legal residence, what should I put on my W-4 form in order to have the state of GA withdraw as little money from my paycheck as possible. Right now I claim Married, with 1 exemption.

The Georgia equivalent of the W-4 is the G-4.

    Claim Married with TWO allowances.
