I had a car accident in my vehicle. August 2008. The insurance company deemed it a total loss; made a deal with my finance company and sent me paperwork to approve the settlement. I signed off on it, the check was sent to the finance company and I received my title from the finance company, stamped stating the lien was released 12/23/09. I then began receiving calls that I still owed finance charges on the car. I disputed with the BBB and Atty General in Illinois. At that time, the finance company stopped contacting me. Last night, 8/4/10, my car was repossessed! Thankfully, I called the police who made the repo man drop my car, as I had the title from the finance company stating the lien was released. Where do I start to make sure this doesn't happen again? And is there any legal recourse?
