I read some posts about leaking tank bolts, but I am still having an issue troubleshooting my leak. I have removed the tank several times, and followed the instructions about keeping the tank level and tightening the bolts evenly. The bolt on the rear side of the tank seems to crank down further than the others. It doesn't seem to be leaning too much, but there is water dripping down that bolt and it seems like it will tighten a bit more, unlike the two in the front. Any other suggestions?

Yep, a toilet tank. I will try and get a picture. It has three tank bolts. One on each side of the center hole and one in the rear.

Does the tank leak all the time or only when you flush it? Back to you, Tom

This last time I filled the tank and no leaks for 4 or 5 hours. I flushed it 3 or 4 times during that span and no leaks. I checked the next day and it was dripping. The water was dripping off the rear tank bolt, but not sure if that is definitely the leak. I read online that you shouldn't tighten the bolts with a screwdriver from inside the tank, rather tighten the bolts from the bottom. I did tighten from the inside with a screw driver and held the bolts on the bottom. Could this be the issue?

I would suggest to remove the bolts inspect the bolts area for cracks inside the tank, if no cracks install the bolts do not over tighten otherwise you will crack the tank, you will need to install rubber and plane washers on the bolt inside the tank and outside the tank, see the image, Thanks.

Do as John suggested...

Get bolts that use 2 nuts. Tighten bold to the tank first with one rubber washer on the INSIDE of the tank and the other one on the OUTSIDE of the tank. You will use metal washer under the nut. Now tank should be sealed. Now insert tank on top of the bowl and tighten against the bowl from under neath... It should work now...

Thanks Milo! Sorry for the late response, but have been traveling and just had a chance to try your suggestion. Good news is there do not seem to be any leaks with the tank bolts or the gasket. I did have one small issue though. When I tightened the tank down to the bowl it shifted just a hair out of place. I had to bend the water line just a bit to get it to line back up with the bottom of the intake hole at the bottom left of the tank. There seemed to be a new small leek at the bottom of the water line (small nut just above the on/off valve). I tightened it and it seems to be OK though. Any danger of moving that water line too much to get it to line back up?

I don't see a problem with it, if you worry about it and be on the safe side replace the supply with a flex line the are cheap, see the image below, Thanks.
