16 yr old bichon suddenly after arthritis meds lost interest in activity, sleeps, and won't eat hardly (always ate) also smell is way off... any thoughts . Vet wants to hospitalize, we don't says maybe luekemia?? We don't want him in pain or separated. He is drinking water and ate some chicken with rice & broth today. We stopped the meds several days ago.

Is leukemia possible? If your Vet is familiar with your dog, has examined the dog, has done blood tests the Vet is the person who is best suited to diagnose your dog.

You say you don't want the dog to be in pain. Is he in pain?

At some point - and I know this is a terrible, painful decision for you, I've had to do it many times myself - you have to look at the quality of life and decide whether it's sensible to keep treating the dog or if it's more merciful to simply allow him to pass away, peaceful, with the help of your Vet.
