    Negative pregnancy tests, still pregnant?
My husband and I have been trying for our second baby. Last month I assumed I was pregnant. I felt pregnant and my breasts were really sore. My period was late so I took a urine test which was negative. My period started but was short, light but full of clots. I assumed I wasn't pregnant and we kept trying. The pain in my breasts continued and I got Montgomery glands(? White pimples on my nipples) and I became exhausted. I went to my doctor about the pain in my breasts and she said she could feel that they were really full and thought I was pregnant. I have now gained 4lb in a week, my hips hurt and I'm still really tired. My second period is two days late but another pregnancy test is negative. With my first child I hadn't thought that I was pregnant so I didn't test until I was 6 weeks. The instructions on the pregnancy test say that an Ovarian Cyst or Eptopic pregnancy could cause the test to give a false negative. I have Poly-cystic Ovaries so could that be effecting the test? If my pregnancy was Eptopic I would know right now, right? Do you think I'm pregnant or just hoping I am so much that I'm clutching at straws?

I think both. What did the doctor say about the clots?

I didn't mention them to her actually. I hadn't gone to see her about potentially being pregnant, I went about the pain in my breasts because one was so painful it was keeping me awake. She was the one who suggested that I might be pregnant. What made you ask about that?

PCOS or an ectopic pregnancy would not effect the pregnancy test. The irregular periods could be caused by the PCOS, but obviously pregnancy is also a possibility. Some women do not get a positive result on urine tests for some time. I'd either give it several more days, and see if this period shows up late, and test again at that time, or see your doctor again and ask about having a blood test done.

I actually don't have irregular periods. I have an application for my iPhone (sounds silly but its fab) that keeps a record of your periods so I can see that this is the latest I have been for three years apart from my pregnancy and while I was breast feeding (4 and a half months). I would not have even questioned being late and getting a negative test if I didn't feel so pregnant though. I am so moody I am driving myself mad! I just feel really irritable and stressed for no reason. I wasn't even this moody when I was pregnant and I don't get PMT at all so its really odd. I'm now at the point that I wouldn't be upset if I'm not pregnant because at least the symptoms I am feeling would go away quicker. I'm only 26 so its not like my husband and I don't have a long time to keep trying.

It's really hard to say. It could be pregnancy, or even PMS. Please understand that PMS can begin to occur after a baby if you did not have it before.

It's really hard to say if you are or if you are not. You can try to test again using first morning urine. If that is negative, make an appointment with your doctor for a blood test.
