We have a new overhead sewer system with a ejector pump and when we run water, specifically our toilet as far as I know, in our basement we hear the water/pump by our ejector pump running loudly. When we looked we noticed that we had water by the ejector piping and pit, any thoughts?

MY first thought was that this is a new installation and it is possible that the pump is working fine but perhaps the CHECK VALVE was put in backwards or upside down... maybe?

You say the pump runs, but you also see water around the pit... right? If so, this means, at the least, that the seals on the ejector system have failed and will need to be replaced. Do not take this lightly as these seals keep the sewer gasses/smells associated with these systems to a minimum.

At a maximum, the check valve is backward (as mentioned), the impeller is clogged with debris...that kind of stuff.

Who installed this and are they planning to pop by and inspect the issue? Sounds like they should.

Using it?

Run clean water into the tub and stand by the ejector pit for a few checking back and forth between the tub and ejector pit. If water pumps up and out you should be fine. If water starts to overflow the tank gaskets or the tub backs up then you will need to open the ejector pit and examine the pump... could be seized or hung up.

Be sure to check that the dedicated electrical breaker is on and the pump system is plugged in properly!
