I have a ranch style house in northern VA - strip footing with block perimeter walls at the basement level transitioning to wood frame with brick veneer for the first floor. Basement is a walk-out (i.e. below grade at the front of the house and at grade on the rear of the house).

I am planning a 20x24 addition at the front of the house for the first floor only - decided not to expand the basement. Instead of creating a crawlspace and framing the floor with wood, I would like to use a monolithic slab on grade. The new slab will butt into the block wall along the 24' length. Top of finished slab will be about 6" higher that top of existing 10" block basement wall.

I have thought about a thickened slab along this side and about opening up some of the block to insert rebar and create a peir to tie the block wall and slab together... looking for any suggestions on the best way to tie the two together. Finished floor will be wood and will span the old / new areas.
