Collection Agency Slander and Libel Facebook
The company I work for has an alleged debt of $ 4,000.00 plus dollars which is being challenged as the alleged debt is for incomplete service. I am the President of said company. The company attempting to collect debt hired a person to attempt collecting this debt. This person went to my personal Facebook page and published this alleged debt to family friends, relatives, and associates. He used the "friend request" button to make these people believe he was a friend of mine, when in fact, he isn't. This is a corporate debt, not personal. This person only appears on Facebook. He claims to be a collection agent with a firm in Los Angeles. According to business license search, the firm doesn't exist. Do I have a claim against the originating party.

Let me get this straight - this person said he was a friend so YOUR friends added him to their Facebook page? He then posted info on the "alleged" debt which is a corporate debt and not your personal debt. You have no responsibility/liability for the debt but this person claims you do?

If you have been FINANCIALLY harmed in any way and can PROVE it, yes, you have an action. Internet incidents like this are difficult to pursue and win because often different States are involved, you have to prove that the person posting KNEW what he posted was not true and some other problems.

But, yes, if you have been financially damaged, by all means retain an Attorney and pursue this person.

Do you have the person's name and address?
