The car stalled and would crank but not fire. The check engine light goes off. I have fuel pressure. I do not have spark, and the spark plugs do not get wet with fuel after cranking the engine a while. I have checked the coil, icm, main relay, ckp/tdc/cyp. I tried checking the map sensor, and I was confused because the wires were different colors than my Haynes book. Thank you for any advice you have. Doug

Run the K-Test on your ECM. If you have a tachometer, try disconnecting the BLU tachometer wire going to the ICM. Do you have power to the distributor? How did you test the ICM, coil, and main relay? Bench testing these components has real limitations. My experience is that these 3 critical electrical components should be replaced at this point, even if they are not the cause of the current problem. These components are not that expensive; however, MAP sensors and ECMs are. Your objective should be "like new" performance and reliability.

The female distributor connectors loosen up, over time. Crimp them a little, with a pair of pliers, and apply a light coating of silicone dielectric grease to the 4 ICM terminals.

Hello. Originally I tested for power at the distributor, power and resistance and continuity for the icm and coil, according to my hanes book. Same for the main relay. Since then I ran the k test and got 5 volts. I tried disconecting the tach. Then I replaced the icm but cheaped out on the coil and relay. I've still got nothing. Please reply with any more sugestions. Thank you very much. Doug

1. Did you check all under-hood and under-dash fuses with a meter or test light?
2. Have you checked for any DTCs?
3. What were the results of diagnostic questions 2 and 3?
4. Is your distributor cap and rotor in good shape?
5. Are your spark plug wires good?
6. Is your MAP sensor OK?

OK, I did the DTC check and got no flashes. I checked the fuses under the hood and all had power. For the ones inside the car, things like the windows and headlights did not have power at the box, but all work so I assume the switches are before the fuse box. The one marked ACG (S) 15A did not have power and I dodn't know what it is. Also I didn't touch the air bag fuse. I replaced the distributar cap when I started diagnosing because it was very old. The wires all had low omhs so I left those. As far as the MAP sensor I checked for 5 volts of power to it, but I don't know how to check the sensor itself.

If you replace the 15A ACG (S) fuse, you should see big things start to happen. It controls power to the main relay, which controls power to the ECM, fuel injectors, and fuel pump.

Hmm interesting about the map sensor haven't come across this as a problem yet,mainly distributor replacement.

Hi, Thanks for all your help but the car is headed for the srcrap yard. Nothing tested bad and the car is too rusty, 260,000 miles, cracked windshield where I'm afraid the rear view mirror is going to fall out any day, for me to start replacing parts with out knowing there bad.
