2-3 times depending on the dog. My doxie was starving when we first got him (at 8 1/2weeks), and we feed him 3 times a day until he was about 12-13 weeks old. Now he is 5 months old and is only fed morning and night.
Usually you feed a puppy 3 times a day until 3-4 months. After 6 months, you can cut back to once a day. Make the changes slowly. Most puppies come from the breeder too fat. Over weight is a big problem for Dachshunds leading to back trouble. Here is a good guide to judging any dog's weight to adjust how much it is getting, http://www.puppychow.com/products/po...condition.aspx
With a new puppy, you should find the material in the stickies at the top of the dog forum helpful. Post back with any specific questions.
I agree with labman. I cut back to twice a day with my dog. Once she is full grown she shouldn't have more than a 1/2 a cup at a time. Doxies don't have big tummies and so they can get food blaot if they over eat. Depending on if she is mini or standard(bigger) she would at max need a cup a day. If she is mini, 1/4 cup twice a day , standard, 1/2 cup twice a day.Quote:
