Which way do I turn my gate valve to on
I reinstalled my water softener only to find it leaking so I deinstalled it again but can't remember which way to turn the gate valve back on in the airing cupboard so that water flows again. Is it clockwise or anti-clockwise? Can you help please.

    Hi Masyrrag...

Old saying, "righty tighty, lefty loosy".. or in other words, turn clockwise to turn off and turn counterclockwise for on... ;)

Mark gave you the answer for opening and closing a gate valve.
I'm wondering if you aren't asking about the bypass valves? (see image)
Are you asking about that? Let me know. Tom

Thanks Mark for that. That's exactly what I did but wasn't sure so needed confirmation I was doing it right.

    Hi Tom
I think what Mark gave me was right. It is a gate valve and not a bypass valve but thanks anyway.
