She may be trying to establish dominance over you.

So you are eating dog food are you ? Your dog should not be eating the same thing you are. Human food does not offer the same nutrition as regular, good quality dog food. You are spoiling your dog by doing this.

    Hi Kysha...

I can't be sure of course, and I'm not trying to be a smart alek, but I'm going to bet that the shi*zu (or shih tzu) is trying to eat off your plate because you let her do it before. In other words, you have given her a reward for doing it earlier... so she thinks, why not try again? ;)

By your own admission you are serving her the same food that is on your plate (not always advisable here)... must seem confusing to an animal to smell the same foods and be told she can't have this plate, but OK across the room all alone!

If you do not want your pet to bother you while eating consider isolating her in a dog crate while you eat... may be best for all involved.

    Just some thoughts...

Your dog could be trying to show you who's boss by taking her food wherever she wants to. Now you have to decide if she is the boss. If not, never let her eat from your plate again, including hand feeding her tidbits. If she is to get a treat, she gets it for doing something good or well, but not at dinnertime.

Someone is going to be boss, Shih Tzu's are very hierarchical. Decide who.
