    I was fired without notice
I worked for an oil company for the past four years as a roughneck. I was away from my family and worked 12 hour days for sometimes 28 days straight. The driller on my rig was always shouting at me ,calling me stupid and berating me in front of other employees. One morning before work even began , he started shouting at me and cursing me and I could not take it anymore, so I asked him if there was a problem. I told him that if he had a problem with me that we could settle it after work. He just told me to go home. This guy has fired people for no reason since I have been working with this company. Is there anything I can do?

So long as they were within state laws then there isn't much you can do other then collect unemployment till you find another job. If your looking to sue for harassment then your going to have to prove what exactly occurred and if it was discrimination based.

It sounds as though right up until you made the statement that you and he take it outside, you had a possible cause of action for hostile work environment. However, that statement in and of itself could be viewed as cause if you are in a cause jurisdiction (if you are not then they can fire you for any reason).

It is unclear from your facts if there were any racial, ethnic or religious factors. If there were then potentially a civil rights or descrimination case could be made, but that would be something you would need to discuss with an attorney in the jurisdiction of the employment or where the Corp. is domiciled.

    Best of luck,

Yes, you file for unemployment, and start looking for a new job.

The proper way to deal with it, was to speak to a supervisor, once you threaten violence, you are fired almost anywhere, they may even protest the unemployment
