    Gmail Subject Line Tweak
In the Gmail Inbox, messages are displayed with the subject title in bold, and then a sentence or 2 following that from the body of the message.

I have been tweaking the heck out of Gmail to get rid of clutter. So far, so good.

Can't find a tweak to get rid of the text following the Subject Title.

Anyone know if this is possible?

In regards to changing the way open Gmails display in threads, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. Lots of users just hate it (including me). It's very confusing. So I guess I give up on that one...

    Thanks

    Yes, you can change it.

When you log into your account, click on "Settings" in the right top corner of the page.

In the "general" tab scroll down until you see the word "Snippets:" in the left panel.

In the right panel select "No snippets-Show subjects only."

Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes."

    XOXO,

This is fantastic! I can hardly believe it!

The "snippets have really been bugging me. I have searched all over the web and Gmail Support, and couldn't find a thing on this. Probably because I didn't know they were called Snippets.

Seems like Google has invented a totally new language... :-)

As long as I have found a Gmail expert here, do you have any idea how to turn off threading within the emails?

I know some people like it, but I really find it confusing. Apparently, a lot of other people do as well. I have tried, but I just can't seem to get used to it.

From what I have read, there is no way to turn this off and have it display in a more conventional format. I hope I am wrong.

    Thanks again!!

    You're welcome. :)

Yep, the threaded emails are annoying, but there is no way to get rid of it. However, you can expand the emails by selecting "expand all" on the left hand side of the threaded email.

Also, under the Settings there is a tab called "labs." It has a lot of options for customizing gmail. You can also suggest things for Google to add to the labs by scrolling down.

Well... thanks again for the info.

I don't know why Google won't "listen to the people" and give us an option on the threading. It was the #1 topic of discussion on the Gmail support page I was reading.

I used Outlook Express for years and was very happy with it. I only just switched to webmail so I could sync contacts with my new droid cell.

Using a number of settings and Firefox add-ons, I have the Gmail page to a point where I can use it, but when I open a "threaded" email, I am practically lost in it.

I'll check out the Labs section again.

    Thanks XO...

PS: I hope you remain with the forum here. You are quite knowledgeable. :-)

You can get rid of the "threads" view if you go the "General" tab of "settings" and click "Conversation view off" and of course save changes.
