Hi! I have a shallow well. We are in a drought. Water pressure is low throughout the house and falling, despite conserving water. I thought the problem was drought-related. But yesterday, I broke my self-imposed water restrictions and used the outside hose to water my thirsty shrubs. I was surprised to find that the pressure outside is just fine! What might be going on here?

Note: Pressure has been low for two weeks. A few days ago, I could hear a small amount of air sputtering into the toilet tank.

Also... about one minute into a shower, pressure increases Every time like clockwork, then fails after about 30 seconds. The pipes "sing" during the increase in pressure.

    Thank you for your time.

    Two things

    1. The pressure rising and falling during a shower could indicate a waterlogged pressure tank. To check, depress the little air valve at the top of your pressure tank for a few seconds and see if water comes out. If it does, then the tank is defective and needs to be replaced.

    2. You could have a water filter or softener that is clogged and preventing good flow to the house. If you have one, and if it has a bypass valve, then turn the bypass and see if that solves your indoor problem.

WOW! Thank you so much. Here after spending weeks worrying about my well, I find that the problem is not with my well at all! I bypassed the water conditioner, like you advised, and the pressure returned to normal immediately. Tomorrow I will change the filter and run the water back through the conditioner. I'll let you know if that resolves the issue once and for all.

    Again, thank you!
