Attaching steel lintel to outdoor fireplace
I am building an outdoor fireplace out of CMU and need to install a lintel across the top opening of the fireplace. Do I just mortar it in and the install the blocks across it? I will be installing firebrick using refractory mortar for the inside.

Yes, just lay a little mortar on each side of the opening to make sure the lintel lays flat lay a bed of mortar and lay block.

Nice looking job you have there Patty. Is there nothing you can't do?

This is the first time I tried my hand at masonry. I guess this is the last thing I needed to try since I've done everything else including welding and even blacksmithing! Thanks Harold. Now I can continue working on this. Hopefully it will be done by winter for a nice fire.
