I have an old, soapstone double laundry tub in my house's 90 year old basement. Tub may or may not be that old. The centers of the 2 drains are around 5 1/8" from each other including the separating wall between the two tubs. One of the drains was broken as a result of some bad advice. Is there a way to replace the dual drain that feeds into a single trap? BTW: I read how to add a photo, and there is no "... section called Additional Options" under this window where I am composing my question.

To post a pic... click on GO ADVANCED below the box you posted in. That will take you to a screen where can review your message and you can click on the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS icon. That being said, they don't make replacement drains for these tubs that I know of. It couldn't hurt to call your local plumbing supply house and double check with them... never know what they keep on the shelves from wayyyyy back!
Nowadays, we don't repair these. It is simply so much easier to purchase a new plastic tub and be able to guarantee that all will work without having to mess with it again in 3 weeks. That is, once the issues start with these the issues never stop! I swear!
Anyway, if you want post a pic. We'll see if we can come up with any suggestions. Otherwise, I'd consider replacing the soapstone sink with a new hard plastic tub... available at all home supply stores.

Thank you Massplumber; I've uploaded the photos. I think I need to replace the drain piece under the dual tub and whatever parts hold it in place. In my third photo you can see the top of the pvc trap into which this dual drain part feeds.Quote:

I got some bad advice from a guy at a big box store. I'd explained that in my inexperienced view, the right drain, when looking into it, had a cross-shaped brass piece that seemed to be there to block objects larger than 1/4 divisions of the drain hole from getting down the drain. The chrome ring that seems to rest on the inner side of the bottom of the tub was loose. If this were a typical kitchen sink, if would be the base of the basket that is held in place with plumber's putty and a large nut applied under the sink. I asked how to, perhaps, replace this base part. The guy said to grab the cross-shaped part with something like a needle nose pliers and "unscrew it." Of course I learned by doing this that there was nothing there that could unscrew, and the cross-shape broke. Now the ring inside the tub, around the drain is unanchored. I'm guessing that the drain is likely to leak.
What can you tell me about obtaining the drain assembly to replace the drain parts pictured in Photo #3?

No replacing the double drain assembly here... set deeply into the cement and cannot be replaced.
If you simply broke the crossbar then no need for concern here... many sinks have broken crossbars.
If the top part is completely loosened I still wouldn't worry much as the underside looks to be nicely intact and that is the major concern.
Like I said, you can't repair this. If a leak does show up... and I don't think it will for a longgg time... you'll need to replace the entire unit... OK?
