My cat had one kitten. She will not take care of it. Why would this be?
My cat had a kitten yesterday. She only had one that we know of. She is not taking care of the kitten at all. Why would this be? What should I do? The kitten is very small and has very little fur. I am afraid that it is not going to live and I don't know what to do. Any ideas or why this would have happened?

You will have to coax the little one towards a nipple so she can nurse; perhaps once this occurs the queen will get the idea and start taking care of it. I don't know why this would happen unless the queen knows that the kitten is ill, bu it will be seen if it doesn't start eating.

Is she just not feeding the little guy, or ignoring it completely?

Some animals just are not good mothers. You should think about bottle feeding the baby. You can get kitten milk and a bottle at most pet stores, or department stores. You'll also have to keep him warm and do all the other things mommy would do.

Here's a site that should help:

Sue Freeman's Guide to Rescue Cats

You should also keep in mind that there may be something wrong with the baby. The fact that you say he has very little fur, worries me. Kittens are born with all their fur. Not having fur may be a sign of something more serious. If that's the case, then mom wouldn't care for a baby she knows won't survive.
