    Stairs for retaining wall
Our backyard is on a slope so we built a retaining wall, just short of 5 ft high, to keep it from eroding away. We are putting a patio on the top portion with railings and a staircase from the lower level up to the higher level. We have the stair stringers, post and treads but are unsure how to "attach" it to the wall.

A picture paints a thousand words..

If you can go to a new comment(The quick answer box at the bottom of this page)push the 'go advanced' option and see below the screen(attach files/manage attachments)) where you can add a photo, that would help greatly.

Have you thought about making the steps go parallel to the wall,up the hill, then turn to go to the upper deck area?

If so,you can simply bury the posts at the base, mid way,and around a landing 3/4's up the steps area,to a new set of steps to the new deck.

Might be more than you were thinking about, but eliminates the problems involved in attaching a set to a wall such as you have.
