Well, to be quite honest, if you think they are correct in asking for the money back, what is the problem in complying ? Yes, they are insured, but they can only make an honest request. And they do have ways of going back and checking errors, which was possibly done before requesting that you pay it back.

What refund were you expecting, and from what source. Get your paperwork in order so you can prove your claim and go from there.

Quite simply the money is not yours and you must repay it. The fact that the bank made a mistake does not change that.

It sounds like the bank has not just taken the money back, so you must have already withdrawn it. If repaying the money is a problem your best option is to go to the bank and discuss it with them.

If you don't repay it and the bank decides to play hardball they can bring criminal charges against you. There have been cases where people went to jail for not repaying funds accidentally deposited into their account.

Which bank is it and how much charges where you expecting back.

Just out of interest, how did you manage to get the bank to agree to refund charges as they have seriously clammed up after the Supreme Courts ruling.

You are in the UK, correct ? You mention 'hemel memstead' so that gets me to that conclusion.

If they put it in the bank by error, first you should have known what money was suppose to be in your bank and KNEW it was wrong.

And of course they are to get it back, ( here in the US failure to pay them back could become criminal if you refused)
