I read a book in High School but can't remember the title or author, about a young couple that get married in his college town and set up an apartment near the school. She buys an alarm clock at the dime store and seeks out a hot plate to cook on. I remember she gets her long hair bobbed just like the co-eds at a barbershop and sits outside classrooms to listen to lectures - taking notes and is asked into the classroom by one of the professors. I remember her husband takes a night watchman job to help pay bill. Anyone outthere who can help will be appreciated.

The description of the book sounds so much like an old movie I remember titled "An Apartment for Peggy". It was based on the novelette "An Apartment for Jenny" written by Faith Baldwin.
