Try spraying the brake light switch with WD-40 first. If that doesn't fix the situation, then:
. Remove the under-dash panel.
. Locate the switch near the top of the brake pedal and disconnect the wiring harness.
. Remove the switch retaining pin and the white nylon washer from the brake pedal pin, then slide the brake light switch and pushrod off far enough for the outer hole of the switch to clear the pin.
. Slide the switch down to remove it.
I have owned Ford EF Falcons for 14 years and I have replaced the brake switch every few years. I never had to pull the under-dash off though. Just stick your head under and pull the spring clip out of the pin, then slip it off sideways.
But... I followed TxGreaseMonkey's first bit of advice and sprayed the switch with WD40 (I had some of the electrical spray) and it saved me spending $60 on yet another switch. Works perfectly without making the usual replacement. Ray
We had the same problem... Bought a replacement switch and then tried the WD40 first, which solved the problem. We returned the switch :)
