A default judgment obtained by a creditor operates in the same manner as a regular judgment to the extent that you don't ask the court to overturn it. With respect to your property, I would be most concerned about 3 things: your house (if you have one), your bank accounts, and your wages which can be garnished. Bankruptcy may provide a solution, but of course without knowing your full story I cannot make recommendations.
