    Bald spot and hair thinning
I am 26 years old and gave birth to a baby boy 10 months ago. I am still nursing him. On the 4th of July I found a quarter size bald spot behind my left ear and have since been losing a lot of hair. New hair is even falling out. If I pull a strand it comes out without the follicle. Also my scalp itches terrible around the base and behind the ears.

Hair loss after delivery is perfectly normal due to hormones, but generally your hair stops falling out about 6 months after delivery.

It's possible that you have some alopecia areata, but you'll need to see a Dermatologist to find out for sure.

It may be a good idea to go see your doctor.

It could be the drying out of the scalp that causes the hair to fall out, especially since you say that it itches terrible.

You may be lacking a vitamin, especially since you are still nursing or you may have a scalp infection, for which the doctor may give you a cream to massage your scalp with or perhaps tablets for the condition, although you say your still nursing so probably not.

Go see your doctor as soon as you can to stop yourself worrying about it,as this can also cause stress, which can also lead to hair loss.

Thank you for all your responses. I did see a dermatologist and found out that I do have alopecia areata. I have since received several steroid injections to the bald spot and have since had hair growing back. I know AA is sporatic and can happen at any time without symptoms. My hair although is still falling out all over. I have pretty thick hair and it is not so noticeable but I have noticed a difference toward the back crown of my head. I guess I just have to wait and see...
