My dog choko is a daschund and he is a type of dog who has been pampered a lot by our family because we never had a dog we cared for him a lot but the problem is that he eats a lot of human food because he thinks and feels he is a human and I am trying to check in the internet about this question {"is it right for us owners to feed our dog the type of human eats?"} but I didn't seem to get any suitable answer in the internet please kindly reply suitable answer for m y question as this question is need of answer{thank you]

This is always a hot topic on the board because there are so many different opinions.

"Human food" (whether he thinks he's human or not) contains far too much salt for your dog, to say nothing of fat, protein, other problems.

What does your Vet recommend? How old is your dog?

Human food in general, like Judy said, isn't the best for your dog. How ever if you were feeding a diet of lets say, boiled hamburger and rice, that's not so bad. If you were to feed only the hamburger and rice feed, you would need to speak to your vet or a nutritionist on supplementing with some extra vitamins and such. You can usually pick up a powdered substance from your vet that you can add into the burger and rice so your dog is getting all which it needs.

Lots of people feed their dogs the BARF diet. (Bones and Raw Food), this is a very time consuming diet, and should definitely be well researched before you feed, but a very (in my opinion) healthy diet. I choose a combination of holistic dry kibble and BARF.

Any good quality dog food, (I'm not a fan of commercial brands) will have every thing your dog needs and you can even choose a type specialized for your breed, age and weight. Of course if your dog has no allergies, a little treat now and again of human food, shouldn't do any harm. Just use moderation.

If you are looking for a healthy treat, you can purchase liver or kidney or beef hearts from your butcher or grocer, and BBQ those cut them up in small chunks and freeze them, you can use those for a special treat. Just remember organ meat is high in fat, and should be fed in moderation as well.

To be on the safe side, I would suggest a good high quality dog food.

Be absolutely sure to not feed your dog people food that is toxic to them, These include:

* Grapes and raisins - they can cause irreversible damage to the kidneys, possible resulting in death. Even 4 to 5 grapes or raisins can be poisonous to a 20 pound dog.

* Onions, Garlic, Chives - They can cause a form of anemia that destroys red blood cells and kidney damage.

* Chocolate, Cocoa - They contain a chemical that can adversely affect the heart, lungs, kidney and central nervous system.

* Caffeinated Items - Caffeine is quite similar to the toxic chemical in chocolate. It can damage the heart, lungs, kidney and central nervous system.

* Macadamia Nuts - while generally not considered fatal, can cause your dog to experience severe illness.

* Xylitol - This is a sugar-free sweetener most often found in chewing gum and candy. In dogs, it stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin, resulting in hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Xylitol ingestion can also cause severe liver damage.

* Alchohol and Yeast Dough - Alcoholic beverages and uncooked yeast doughs contain ethanol - a seriously toxic chemical compound that causes central nervous system and respiratory depression.

* Fruit Pits and Seeds - Apple seeds, cherry pits, peach pits, and plum pits contain the toxin cyanide.
