Im being robbed by my landlords
I recently was in a 1 year lease that ended on May 30, 2010. My roommates and I were out by the 29th of May but when we went to return our keys the management told us that we owed another months rent because we didn't turn in our 30 days notice. But in the lease agreement it states that--if you would like to continue on a month-to-month lease after your lease is up you must retrieve the owner's consent. We intended on moving out by the end of our lease not staying. What should I do? They are threatening to turn us into their collection agency. Please help! Any info would be wonderful!

    Hello a:

You MIGHT be right. So, don't pay, let them sue you, and tell the judge. He may agree with you.

Read your lease carefully. Many leases have an automatic conversion to month to month status without notification.

You should ALWAYS inform your landlord of your intentions whether its to vacate or stay. I'm afraid a court will side with the landlord on this one.

    Hello Scott:

This lease didn't have one of those. It has a you need to contact me provision, and they didn't. That's why I think they might win.
