I have had an injury that has caused tons of problems. I went to court for this injury, but nothing happened in getting anything for that injury. I have reduced wages, and one I have a judgement as well. I was very sick and trying hard to deal with so many things at the same time that I couldn't get on top of this, like I may have if I had not been in that position.
Now, I get a note in the mail saying my license is suspended. I am on assistance right now and absolutely have no money. If I had, I would have handled this. I don't have anything else
And never have had this problem before. Can I get some suggestions on how to deal with this?
I do work as much as I can and my form of work requires that I drive (tools, etc). My old vehicle just fried, and I was trying to find some form of driving vehcile (even borrowing) in order to work. Now this! Can anyone guide me as to what to do to be able to drive - at least temporary while I can get this cleared up? Minnesota

This is very confusing but this is what I think happened - please fill in the details.

You were sick, then you were in an accident and were injured. The other party (or parties) sued you for their injuries and got a Judgment against you. This would indicate that you were driving uninsured or your insurance company rejected the claim for some reason.

Because you were driving uninsured and there was a money judgment against you personally for injuries the Department of Motor Vehicles has suspended your license. It will be reinstated when the Judgment is paid.

You CAN petition the Department of Motor Vehicles for a restricted license (driving to and from job sites ONLY). In NY that request would not be granted to an uninsured driver but perhaps you can argue severe hardship.

The quick way to get your license back - and it might be restricted - is to pay the Judgment.

Am I close to what happened?

Of course, if you are caught driving without a license you will be jailed due to the circumstances.

No, I was not in an accident. This judgement is for an old credit card debt that I could not pay because of the circumstance. I did go to court to try and get damages for my injuries, but that did not happen. (another weird story).

Anyway, what income I do make requires a car. I have medical conditions that requires me to stay away from perfumes, gas etc - so I have to be careful, and that limits my work. I do get medical assistance now, and some other assistance, but I still try to provide for myself whatever I can. I just got so overwhelmed that this happened. I never had this issue before. I never racked up credit card bills. This is the only issue. Is there anyway to get this handled so I can get my license reinstated. I have a good driving record too. I need to be able to work when ever I can.

Try to focus. NONE of the things you listed would get your license suspended. If that is what you want help with, we need to know the REASON it was suspended. I'll bet it says so right on the notice.

Well, I am trying to find out. I got a notice yesterday and there was not a reason listed. Really. I am assuming it was from a judgement from a credit card because I don't have any tickets, or anything else. I read that if you have a judgement from a debt, they can suspend your license to force you to pay it. I have no money in my bank account, so I assuming that this is what is going on. Been on hold for an hour with DMV and I cannot check it online.

This could be the only reason. I don't owe anything else for taxes or for tickets or insurance or anything. All that is clear. This could be the only thing. So, if this is happening. (judgement for a debt) how do I go about getting my license back - at least temporary until I can find a way to clear this up. I felt guilty for not taking care of this - I just couldn't see straight after going through so much.

Called someone - going! Thanks everyone for trying to help. I write back when I find out what the heck is going on. The letter only states the my privileges for driving have been suspended or cancelled. Nothing else at all what it pertains to.

I absolutely agree with Excon - I never HEARD of such a thing (if that is the reason).

What State and I'll research it. They CAN suspend you if your insurance/registration lapse. Something isn't right. Are you sure the name and info on the Notice are actually pertaining to you?
