I have a great dane that we just received 3 days ago from a friend that had another great dane but didn't have the time to show him enough attention that he thought was needed so I was wanting him because I know I do but the only down fall is that he isn't eating but drinking water fine and it seems that he is depressed even though I give him a lot of attention if you know what I should do I would appreciate it the vet says just to let him be he will work it out but I am worried... thanks

He is probably just missing everyone. If you had lived with your parents and brother for years and then was suddenly taken away from them you would be a little depressed too.

Try offering something like roast or boiled chicken, or raw hamburger meat. He will come around eventually and as long as he is drinking there is no reason to panic just yet.

Dogs can get separation anxiety missing the old home or the other dogs or family members. Depressed and not eating are symptoms of that.

He'll snap out of it. Hes depressed. He won't starve himself. Just give him time. It does take a period for dogs that have been up rooted from their homes to adjust.
