    My puppy lab bites me
    Hi, I have 3 wonderful labs (6 years girl, 3 years boy and a new 8 months girl). They are now family related. My new girl (Maggie) is very attached to me. How ever every morning when we wake up she jumps on me and bites me (very hard). She also bites my when I arrive home from work. She bites very hard. I try giving her something to bite instead of my arm and it seams to work, but if she doesn't have anything then she bites my arm or my clothe. She also uses her hand and it hurts bad with her nails. I can't make it not doing this, I grab her arms, tell her to sit instead, but she just keeps scratching us very bad (of course not on porpuose). Could you plese advice me what can I do. My other 3 labs don't do any of this things. Thanks a lot

    I notice you use arms and hands instead of legs and feet - I realize they probably like children to you but sometimes you have to be the boss in the way you address them and correct them.

    My Lab did this. I found that having her sit and stay every time she got herself wound up kept her from jumping and biting. Eventually she grew out of it. Puppy nails are the same thing - my dogs were never allowed to jump or paw at people. A firm "no" and sit and stay worked.

    You can also try 'yelping' when she nips at you. In a high pitched scream, much like a dog would yelp. You are letting her know that she is being too rough. Than say "no" in a firm voice and ask her to sit until you are ready to give her her attention. It also helps if you ignore her when you first come in the door. When she greets you, ask her to sit, you take off your shoes, put your keys down, put your groceries away etc... and than pet her.

    How old was she when you got her, and where did you get her from?

    Dog lovers may crucify me for this, but when I had my puppy first, when we were playing, she would get a little too excited and bite hard. So, I would pick her up, and bite her (gently, but firmly) back. Sure, I ate fur for a few days, but it worked. Eventually, she realized that if she bites, I bite back.

    If she is getting overly excited when you come home and her reaction of greeting you is jumping and biting, then turn your back on her. Ignore her. Push her down when she jumps on your firmly. Trust me, you pushing her down is not going to hurt her. When you push her off, say a very firm, almost angry OFF command.

    Once she learns that jumping and biting isn't going to get her what she wants, teach her to sit for a pet. If she continues to bite at you, have a vinegar spray bottle handy (25% vinegar and 95% water) and spray her right in the face with a very firm NO or NO BITE.. I have also heard that cinnomon breath spray sprayed in the mouth will get their attention too. Apparently they don't like the tingley bite of cinnomon.

    It is never a good thing when a dog bites skin. Dogs can get carried away and "forget themselves" and will at times bite harder then expected. Our skin is not dog skin, it breaks easily. You need to correct this issue now while she is still relatively young. And maybe sometimes those corrections aren't going to be the nicest.

    I meant only a small amount of vinegar and the rest should be water
