    Keloid after ligation
I have tubal ligation done 7 years ago. I noticed a small keloid protruding from my naval which I was told its normal. Then the small keloid expanded and now it is triple the original size completely closing up my naval hole. It does not bother me then only occasional itching but I fear it is still growing. I was told there is nothing I can do since I am keloid prone. Will it turn cancerous? Please advise.

A keloid is a type of scar, which depending on its maturity, is composed of mainly collagen. It is a result of an overgrowth of granulation tissue at the site of a healed skin injury. A keloid scar is benign, non-contagious, and sometimes accompanied by severe itchiness, pain, and changes in texture/size.

Keloids are irregularly shaped and tend to enlarge progressively. Unlike regular scars, keloids do not subside over time. They are considered as "scars that don't know when to stop!" lol

I know they are horribe!! I had a TL last year and developed one in my belly button immediately after. It had grown slightly, and become a bit darker. A few weeks ago I purchased some 'visible aid' from Aloette.com and have been using it everyday since. It seems to be lightening up, but no change in growth.

Perhaps you should speak to your healthcare provider about getting a monthly cortisone injection. It should help reduce size/inflammation, and is not painful at all. I will definitely try it if this thing continues to grow.

Well good luck, and God bless.

Thanks for infor. I would like to consider "visible aid" but since you did not notice any change in growth, think I will pass on that. Do you think silicon patch will be effective in reducing the size? Let me know if u have experience using it as it is easily available OTC. I had a friend who tried cortisone injection on her arm. It did flatten the keloid but it was painful and requires many visits to the clinic. Don think it will be suitable for my keloid it belly button because as it flattens the keloid patch will look bigger in area. You know, like a tiny island. Hahaha.
