My girlfriend.. who is still currently my girlfriend is pregnant. Her parents are trying to take me out of the picture. I am 15 she is 14. The baby is due feb 7-11 somewhere between there. I am trying to get a job, but everywhere says I'm too young. Wait till I'm 16. That August 6th not much longer. I want to be a good father and also support the mom. I want to stay the night so I can help at night shifts. Go during the day to help with day shifts too. Also I want the kid to come to my house to see my parents, and also so I don't have to be away from the kid for long periods.

What rights do I have as a teenage father?

If I take the mom and her parents to court for custody can I still let the mom see the kid a lot?

First, you have to worry about going to jail for statutory rape. It is very likely your girlfriend is under the age of consent, which means her parents could have you charged.

Second, when asking a legal question you need to indicate your general area as laws vary.

Barring rape charges, you may be able to get visitation rights, but I doubt if you can get custody. I would strongly advise you to consult a family law attorney before you go blundering about against her parent's wishes.

But you aren't thinking this through. They may not know the law now, but they can ask on a site like this just like you can. They can hire or just consult an attorney just like you can. The real point is how badly do they want you out of the picture. The more they want that the greater the likelihood they will charge you.

They want me out.. but they won't do anything bad to me. It would make there daughter go insane. They know how much I mean to her. That's why they won't do anything. They just are trying to cut me away from the kid. Sorry for no specifying that.

For one thing you can't take her to court for anything. Your not 18. Your parents could be responsible for paying your child support until your 18 depending on where you live. Your parents are the ones that could help you with bringing action but since your underage there isn't a lot your going to accomplish. The bottom line is that you crossed a path you never should have so your going to have to live with what's coming. Your going to be a legal enigma till 18.

Do I have a right to put my name on the birth certificate and for the kid to have my last name?

Nope. She can choose any name she likes. And since the birth certificate is a legal document you have to wait until your 18 to add your name to it after a DNA test and court approval.

Your screwed. (your words). Since your not of legal age you can be disallowed from many things. Even making decisions for your child until you reach the age of majority (usually 18) in your state.

Actually its your girlfriend that was screwed. You should have thought of all this before you dropped your pants.

Yes, as a minor you can't bring a court action. Nor can you sign a legal document. So any legal action taken to enforce your limited rights will have to be taken by your parents.

Even if her parents don't press charges, you are not out of the woods. The doctor who treats her, the hospital she gives birth in all may be required to report a teenage pregnancy to the police. If she needs to apply for public assistance, they may also report it.

Stop opening new threads - I answered your OTHER thread. The parents, the girlfriend, don't have to report you in order for you to be arrested for statutory rape. Anyone can report you - including the Court when DNA testing is done.
