John deere mower model 160 problems
John Deere 160, Kawasaki engine. I bought it 3 days ago. The only problem I have is the engine surges wildly after it warms up. I spayed the carb with carb & choke cleaner but that didn't work. I am hoping to find a simple fix for this. If I can't, then I will take it to a repair shop.

    Hi,
It is a safe bet that you have a circuit in the carb plugged or partially plugged. Try cleaning it again.
    Peace,

I had the same problem. John Deere L160 with a FB460V Kawasaki engine. It surged quite a bit.

I went to a web-site that discussed this and one responder discussed the 2x2 opening that allows engine fan to send air into air intake and how it may be pushing more air than needed, thus changing the fuel mixture going into the engine. He suggested putting a piece of 'foam rubber' in that part of the air intake. I had a piece of 3M Scotch Brite (tm) so I used it to disrupt and diminish the air flow from the engine.

I folded over a piece and put it next to the 2x2 opening and it works pretty well. Dramatically reducing the engine surge AND I can push the throttle up to the 'choke point' and it still doesn't surge.

    Good luck.
