    Replacing a load bearing wall
The old home I just bought had some questionable remodeling done to it. A load bearing wall was removed between two bed rooms to make one large one. We want to keep the bigger room so we will have put in a beam to carry the weight. My question is since the house is old and the ceilings are not high would 4 2x4s glued together on the 4" side be OK? The span is 13' and is under an attic, the rafters above run the length of both rooms 19'. I will be able to support each end by 2 2x8s

You can add a beam in the attic and attach to each rafter with a steel plate. Simpson makes several YouTube - Simpson StrongTie Structural Connectors
