We have a neighbor that is renting the property next door---he is a very strange man,and has done some weird things,such as throw dead birds in our yard,blades of grass that aren't his,etc!! I have already had to call the police when he assaulted me last fall. Basically the police did nothing. He is now accusing my husband and I of mowng overon "his" yard,which he does not own. His harresses me moe than my husband. I have tried to talk to the landlord,but that does no good either. I have lived in this place for 28 years and the neighbors on the other side of us for 37 years,which he has also harassed. My husband works nights,and I have to deal with them,and don't feel real safe.I am so stressed out about this---any ideas??

When you say you are harassed , what do you mean?
Also , what happened when you were assaulted? The more information you provide makes it easier to hopefully find a solution.

Sure. You've got TWO enemies here; the neighbor, and the cops who WON'T protect you. You've got to attack them BOTH. If you're not comfortable in becoming the intimidator instead of the intimidated, you need to MOVE. I don't care HOW long you've been there. Given that you're ALONE, if it was me, I'd do the switch above. Buy a book by Robert Ringer called Winning through Intimidation. Learn how to DO that. It's not hard. First off is your neighbor. Put up a fence. Install TV cameras. Buy a BIG gun. Send your neighbor a copy of your receipt. LEARN how to use it. Get a CONCEALED weapons permit. Send a copy to your neighbor.

Next is the cops. Go back to the cops who did "nothing". Complain to their supervisor. Complain to the chief. Go to the newspapers about their lack of protection. Do all this in writing. Make noise. You're a citizen who pays taxes, and you DESERVE protection.

Yes, it's going to piss off the neighbor and it's going to piss off the cops. So? They ALREADY don't like you. If you can't handle the heat, MOVE. On the other side of the coin, your neighbor will be afraid you might have your gun on you, so I doubt he'll be messing with you. Or, the cops could START doing their jobs, and they'll stop the guy.

It's one or the other. But, I wouldn't just sit there.

As far as the blades of grass are concerned, if they weren't his, whose were they?

To add to excon's advice, also contact the landlord in writing! Advise him that if he doesn't do anything about the situation being created by his tenant, then you will include him in any law suit filed against the tenant.

Heck, my neighbor complained about a little snow (compare to 2') from the snowblower "blocking him in". His drive wasn't shoveled yet.

Yet, he put a lot of "his" snow on our property when he shoveled just like everyone does to the next property.

There is about 6-12" of his (landlord's) grass property that separates the neighbors driveway to our grass.

We maintain that (6-12") strip just like everyone else in the development because it looks nicer.I mow, I edge one side of his driveway. The other neighbor does the same.

So, technicly he should have put the snow from his driveway on that (6-12") piece based on his logic?

My ex-neighbor used to throw his dog's droppings over my 6' privacy fence and claim they belonged to my fenced dog. Usually the droppings ended up on the side of my garage.

I was newly divorced, the husband was a pest, I told him to leave me alone, he apparently took offense.

I contacted an Attorney. He wrote them a letter, told them he was considering a lawsuit, asked for the name of their homeowners insurance. They provided it. He then wrote a letter to both of them stating that he felt my distress was an unintentional result of an intentional act.

The homeowners insurance sent them a notice that they were cancelling their policy (following their investigation), my Attorney actually did file a lawsuit, they moved.

And, yes, I collected some money which I gave to a charity.

Problem solved.

If the neighbor actually assaulted the OP I'm confused why nothing was done.

Just how were you assaulted please?
