My friend is Catholic unsure of a gift
I do not know a lot about the Catholic belief and I would like to give a gift to my friends kids and I am unsure if it is appropriate. I would like to give her two teenagers a devotional, that are of christian faith and I am unsure if it might be offensive. I think we believe in most of the same things but should I ask before I give it to them. I would not want to cause any hard feelings. The books are If God Loves me why can't I get my locker open by Lorraine Peterson and My time with God for students by Thomas nelson publishers.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

This is a good question for Fr. Chuck.

I would recommend going to a Catholic bookstore and checking those devotionals out. If you do not have such an outlet there, a religious bookstore would help. Ask the clerks to assist you. You can even call your local Catholic church and talk to one of the priests there and explain what you are looking for and ask for suggestions.

You are indeed a thoughtful person and I am sure you will find the right devotionals.

Good advice above... or even a gift certificate from a local Catholic Book/Gift store.

Now, I have not read the books, but are they based on your particular religion? If so, I would refrain.

Catholics are Christian, And they are fine for them.

Catholics thierself have different levels of faith and will like Protestants have various types of practice, There are some Catholics who believe only the Latin Mass is the "real" mass. There are others who are Penticostal and work within the gifts of the spirit, But that is the amazing thing, because Catholics believe their denomination is the true one, they will all stay and work within the basic faith

But yes this would be a fine gift and would not offend them. I believe I am familiar with the book.

But let us say with a Baptist, if you give them a book on speaking in tounges, some would be offended, some would not. And with that just because a book is called Christian, Ihave read those that would offend most Christians for various reasons. So if you have not read the book, I don't recomeend giving anything you have not perosnally read.

But Catholics I know love Billy Graham books, others would not have them in their home. But sadly some books that call thierself Christian, merely spread hate and attack Catholics esp in some of the evangelical publishers.

So as stated a gift certificate to any local Christian book store, or to a Catholic book store is always best, but in general Catholics are not offended for gernic Christian wirtings, not always agree with all of them,

I read from Graham to Falwell, I even believe as a Catholic Christian that we need to read all levels of religious material, I have read the Book of Mormon, the Quran and the book wrote by Sun Moon, because if we don't understand others, Ia m not sure we fully understand ourself.

Booze. You can't go wrong giving a Catholic booze. They love it. I was thinking about becoming a Catholic simply because you can drink during church.

I see you asked specifically about two books. While I am not familiar with those two in particular, I have read quite a few that I think are like them (only for adults LOL) while I was studying to be baptised in the Catholic Church. Also I read their reviews on Amazon and they both appear to be general enough in their Christian aspects that I can't see how they wouldn't be anything but great gifts. Merry Christmas!
