I am installing a moen tub-shower fixture model 82910 and would like to know what is the distance from the face of the black cover to my finished wall material

Hi Ben...

The face of the black cover plate wants to be FLUSH with the finished wall surface. This means that you will need to calculate for the cement board, the tile AND the mastic/thinset being used... ;)

If you look real closely at the black plate it should state that the plate needs to be flush. Otherwise, the instructions should also confirm my recommendation!
