    SS Medicare tax return timeline
    I have filled for SS and medicare tax back with IRS in April 2010. I have filled proper forms and have attached proper supporting documents. I haven't got any acknowledgementFrom IRS stating that they have received my application. Could you please let me know how long it takes to get the refund back. Is there a way by which I can check the status of my return. I really appreciate your help

    They will NOT acknowledge receipt, though if you call them, they should be able to tell you if they got the forms. Call 1-800-829-1040.

    It can take anywhere from 2 - 6 months to process Forms 843 and 8316.

    Thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate it!

    I called at the number which you've pasted. Their automated system does not recognize my SSN.
    What should I do once I call them?

    Thanks again for the information,

    You need to go through the process and speak to a human being, because they have to access a special part of the IRS database to check on the status of the Form 843.

    Thanks you very much for the reply!!
    I called them at the above number, they asked me to call at their international center in Philidelphia. I called them as well. He said they got my forms. I am little confused;
    1. He said in order to get the SS and Medicare return for 2009, I will have to file for my 2009 federal returns fiorst, Is it correct?
    2. He also said that I will have to submit a copy of my EAD card with the other forms to get SS and Medicare back, is this correct?

    It's been 4 months now, I am still waiting for IRS to get back to me.

    I would appreciate your help!

    1) The requirement to file the tax return FIRST is something that just started this year. When you file, you MUST file as a non-resident alien, filing Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, plus Form 8843.

    2) Yes, a copy of your EAD card IS one of the support forms that needed to be submitted with the Forms 843 and 8316.
