We just had our oil furnace replaced. Suddenly the water in our kitchen now fizzes and smells bad (hydro-carbon type smell - like oil, gas, etc). The fizzing and bad smell in the water lasts for about 20 seconds after running the tap. Even if we just used the faucet a few minutes earlier, the fizzing and smell comes back for the first 20 seconds or so, right away.

We told the oil company about it the day of the installation, but they claimed there was nothing they did that could cause this. But we can't imagine that this is a coincidence.

Any ideas?

You need to go look at furnace and water pipes,, does your water run through the furnace? did the oil lines and water lines get coupled together? Can`t imagine what the water lines would have to do with the furnace,unless you have a oil hot water heater

First I should explain that it's a boiler, not a furnace. The water for the hot water system is heated indirectly by the boiler, but does not go through the boiler (there is a heat exchanger used between the boiler and the hot water holding tank). No, the oil lines and water lines do NOT get coupled in any way.

A zinc anode if so equipped in the unit could cause this and an assortment of other items. I would be on the installers back until it was repaired since they replaced the boiler and this all started at the time of replacement.
