I have a almost 10 month old min pin. Since the day my boyfriend and I have got her we have made sure to have her around other animals and people. She has been very socilaized. At the starting of this month she started coming into her first heat. At this time she became very protective over me and if anyone tried to even stand next to me she would growl and snap. She is now pretty much out of her heat and her aggression has moved from people to other animals. She still snaps and growls if I am holding her and another person comes around me, but when she is on the ground she is fine. However when it comes to other dogs even coming close to me she freaks out. Dogs that she has been around since she was 7 weeks old she will growl and snap at if they come up to me. And its only me that she's like this with she could careless about who or what is around my boyfriend. So I actually have a 2 part question; Could the aggression just be related to the changing hormones and if not are there any training things I can do so she doesn't act this way? Thank you

Yes, having their first heat can change their behavior dramatically. It's the same as a moody teenager going through puberty.

Simple fix is to get her spayed to calm her hormones down. It won't fix the problem like magic but it certainly will help.

Next thing is to take a look at the breed itself, Min Pins are known for being 'snappy' so socialization and hard training are a must.
I would recommend enrolling in some obedience classes. It's not just about learning tricks, classes like that teach your dog focus, and puts them below you in the pack, as well as training them around other dogs and distractions.

Well, you want to tell her that it is not okay to act that way, yell at her every time she does it, dogs are smart and will get that you don't want them to do that.
And whatever you do, don't hit your min pin, because she may retaliate!
You may want to read a dog training book etc.

You DO NOT yell at an anxious animal. It increases their anxiety and tells them not to give warning when they are scared and ready to snap.

Just talk in a firm voice and say 'NO!', yelling is useless. Also, sometimes, I put my dog down on the ground firmly, but gently to show him it's not okay. Now that he's nuzzling next to me, I can tell you that as long as you are a firm "pack leader" and not a mean, yeller, they will respect you!

This is normal. I had purebred min pin female an she did the same thing
