    Ceiling fans diagrams
I have a celing fan light combo. The light works from a wall switch and at the fan with a pull chain. The fan only works from a pull chain. The other day both were working, (but the light was off) I pull the chain to turn the fan off. When I went to turn the fan back on it would not work. Also the light would not come from either at the wall switch or at the pull chain. I check fuse box nothing tripped. All other lights and receptables in the room work. I am stumped.

Is there a single wall switch, controls both light and fan at the same time or are there two switches?

As a wild guess, I am going to say the neutral may have disconnected in canopy, since the fan is controlled by pull chain(constant hot), light from wall switch does not control light, and other items are working. Verify bulb is still good.

If both the fan and light stopped working, you should check:

    1. The neutral wire in the ceiling
    2. The neutral wire in the switch cap
    3. The hot supply prior to the switch

    A voltmeter would help.

One wall switch that controls only the light.

This is unusual, one switch that controls light only. So does this mean the fan gets power 24/7 and can only be controlled by the pull chain or is the switch actually powering both fan and light.

Yes the fan has power 24/7 and is contolled by the pull chain.

Have you opened the canopy and checked for lost connections yet? With the switch on your shoulde be getting 120 vac from 2 wires, both could be black but one may be blue.

Yes and I checked the light at wall switch and there is no power. My next move is to go into the canopy of the light and see if a wire has loosen. Need to get a tall ladder as I have those high ceilings.

How did you check it at the wall switch?
