About a year and a half ago, I got myself into trouble while visiting NC and have gone through the year of court and the final outcome was probation here in NC. The judge and DA were well aware that I would be transferring back to IL where I have a job waiting for me. Apparently the state of NC has some issues with probation in general, i.e. probates can never get ahold of the PO etc. Well, long story short, I finally got in to see my PO down here over a month ago when we put in for the transfer. I was told by her it should take 2-4 weeks for the transfer to be finalized. Since it has been over a month since I've last seen my PO, I began calling last week asking if the transfer went through. I have called her, leaving voicemails, everyday for the last 2 weeks and have still not received a call back, so I decided to call the county in which I am trying to transfer to, asking if they knew anything via voicemail. They called me back immediately, telling me my PO here in NC has just sent the transfer in TODAY, even though I was told it would go in the last time I was at probation, well over a month ago. The county that I am trying to transfer to told me that the transfer will take a minimum if 45 days and am wondering if there is any way to expedite the transfer by either paying a lawyer etc. I can't believe my PO did this to me, especially after telling me that she would put it in asap, so needless to say, I would do or pay anything at this point to speed up the process. Is there any way at all to do that? Thanks in advance.

It's never a mistake to retain an Attorney, especially when the time frame is short and the situation could be desperate.

You need to remember that these are county/government workers and they tend to take their own sweet time when transferring anyone anywhere. You just can't expect these PO's to jump when you say jump and how high to jump. You need to be realistic in that your problem and/or your urgency is not necessarily their problem or urgency in getting your transfer to go through. Be happy it didn't take you 6 months and not weeks for this to happen. If anything it sounds about the right amount of time regardless of what your original PO told you it would take. Excon likes to tell everyone on probation that the PO's are not necessarily "nice" people. You found out yourself personally that they aren't "nice" people. There is no way to make this happen any faster than it already is happening. Don't keep bugging them, okay? It's going to happen soon in any event.

I have a family emergency in that my brother has a few weeks to live, if that, and if I were not told by my PO that she would "get it out right now", I guess I would not have expected anyone to do any jumping at all, and have called once about this situation, so am by no means "bugging" her But also as the state of NC's probation dept. has come under much critisim lately for probates not being able to get in contact with their PO, and going months without seeing said PO, I'm not surprised. It was just a question I thought I'd throw out there as it does not look like, at this rate, I will make it to my brothers funeral. He's 36, by the way.

Seriously consider contacting a local attorney. They may know how to get things moving for you. Where in NC are you?

Sorry about your brother and I don't understand why you are so sure you can't get emergency permission to travel -

Well since you are rude our members I will speak my mind, if you had not broken the law and got into trouble, this would not have happened. So start with the blame where it belongs.

Next PO have offices, go to see them there, Phone calls are often hard to get though, PO's have about twice as many people to handle as they should have due to budget cuts.

Next your PO can not just "send" it to them in IL, he has to send it though his state and get it signed off IN NC before it ever goes to IL.

And yes, about 3 months is the average norm for probation permission to transfer. If you had fines or programs to do, they may often even refuse to allow transfer at times.

An attorney is never a bad idea, but it appears that IL has it, and is processing it. While an attorney may speed things up
