Worried about crackling and bangs in apartment lighting switzerland
    Hello

I have no knowledge on electrical systems and I just wondering if anyone could help set my mind at ease? I will be calling an electrician, but in the meantime I wanted to know if this is something I should be seriously worried about? I'm sorry if this is a bit vague, but this is all the information I can give.

Just moved into new apartment on my own in switzerland, old building but well maintained. I had started to notice a bang occasionally when I turned off the lights in 2 of the rooms. The fuse hadn't gone, the lights still worked, just this bang every now and again. Today I had no problems with same lights, until I was woken up by a loud crackling sound that sounded like sparks. I think it was the wiring in the ceiling but not certain. Got up to have a look for the source, couldn't find it and when switching of the light, same bang again.

Now I have a real worry of fire if there's a problem in the wiring. Is this possible? Any ideas?

    Thanks for any input!

    Hi, thandeka16!

Do you have the phone number of the apartment manager or owner, please?

    Thanks!

Ermmm yes, but it's the middle of the night here in switzerland.

Is this something I should be worried about?

Yes, you should be worried about it! A fire could happen, if indeed it's a problem with the wiring. Whoever owns or manages the dwelling should be made aware of any problems as soon as possible.
