I have the shower sockets however I can not remove the metal sleeve covering. How it attached? Do I need to spray silicone to loosen? I have I believe a price pfister hot/cold two handle. I have a separate tub and shower with a shared wall. The tube valve stems were replaced three years ago and were price pfister so I'm assuming the shower is the same brand (from what I can see it looks the same).

They are screwed in. Usually, only hand tight. If unable to unscrew by hand, use Channel Locks.

Before you reinstall them, spray them with WD-40 or apply few droplets of any oil on the interior threads of these tubes... This way they will be easier to remove next time...

Suggestion for removing things like the chrome plated stem covers where you don't want to use a tool that might mar the finish.

Wrap the item in masking tape. That will greatly improve your grip. However the ultimate in improving your grip is to wrap it in double sided carpet tape. Then you have a sticky surface to grip. Almost like having a wrench.
