    Black Death
Describe the European epidemic called Black Death. What was it? When and where did it go?What were its immediate effects? In what ways did the epidemic bring about change in the social, economic and religious fabric of Late Medieval Europe? I am in the process of answering this but it is for my final!I really need help and if anyone can give some feedback I would really appreciate it!

This was an epidemic of bubonic plague, carried by fleas on Black Rats, and it emerged in Europe in the 1340s. In England it recurred sporadically till the 1660s, but the 1348 epidemic was devastating because such huge numbers died. There is a brilliant time travel novel about it by Connie Willcox (think that is how you spell it.)
The upside was that those who survived and who worked on the land were so few that they were able to demand better working conditions and pay. (This takes you on to Peasants' Revolt, translations of the Bible in local languages etc) and also changed land use - for instance sheep farming rather than more labour intensive arable.
    Hope this helps.

Not an answer. It is a facinating subject worth researching and had long lasting impacts on all aspects of society. We still do things that are a direct result of the black plague. I do believe one in three died. Families removed from the house members that had the disease for fear of spreading.

Can anyone say "bird flu"? Scary

    Regards and good luck,
    Don
