In short you're asking for a snap course in plumbing. What you need is a set of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Library by jules Oravatz, Sr. published by Theodore Audle & Co. This is a set of three books that covers all aspects of plumbing in language a non plumber can understand, The answer to your questions will be found in the book named "Drainage -Fittings-Fixtrures"
I'm curious, why do you wish to know the meaning of these terms? Test of some sort? Are you setting for yourl license? Let me know, Tom
