Is a verbal 30 day notice recognized
On MAY 28th 2010 My roommate went into the office and spoke with the manager to see when our lease will be up she stated "30JUN I am running behind on my letters if I dont hear you than I expect you will be out 30JUN" 20Jun I receive a phone call the other lady says to me "I am drawing up your paperwork what type of lease do you want" and that is when I explained we are not staying, she says I can not do anything about it my manager won't be in until tomorrow 21JUN. I did not receive a phone call so I called at 1130am, the Manager is too busy to come to the phone so long story short she calls at 330pm and says I need a wriiten statement and I never said

What exactly does your written lease say about giving notice. Verbal notices usually do not hold water. Back to you

    Hello amy:

It would IF she didn't retract it, and she DID.

MOST leases, and I would READ yours, automatically revert to a month to month tenancy. That means if you wanted to vacate you needed to submit WRITTEN notice. You didn't, and they're LYING to you. Bummer.

Even though the law works against you here, you might have a shot at cornering the manager and questioning her directly, WHILE her boss is present...
