    Renters rights
I am renting in a house that is in foreclosure. What is going to happen? I have not paid rent in 5 months. Am I committing any crimes? Will I just be evicted by the bank and given 30 days to do so? Will they come after me for not paying rent for the last 5 months?

You still owe the rent even though the property is in foreclosure. The bank may and likely will approach you and want more than just an eviction.

    Hello k:

I suspect that being "in" foreclosure means the house is STILL owned by your landlord and hasn't been foreclosed upon yet. If that's so, of course you owe rent. You probably helped with the house going into foreclosure in the first place. When the bank finally DOES take ownership, you'll be given 30 days notice. I don't know if your landlord will sue you. Probably not.

So, you've had a pretty good deal here. I wouldn't be so worried about YOUR rights. What about the rights of the guy who you promised to pay?

If, on the other hand, the bank already owns it, ballenger is right on.
