Slight gas smell and bubbly noise from upstairs unit
    Hello,

I have a 1997 Carrier gas heating electric cooling system for my top floor. For years I can smell gas in the general area of attic ( gas water heater is next to it as well). Well it is scorching hot so heat is off but air is on. I went up to check on system and still slight smell but a water bubbly sound coming from it. It seems to onlly make sound when system is on and cooper pipe is hot to touch. I have no idea if cooper pipe is usually hot or not. The gas lines aren't making the sound it sounds to be coming from either the cooper pipe or the PVC pipe. I have noticed a TON of water on my patio where the system drains HOWEVER the pan seemed dry tonight. ANy idea on noise?

    Thank you,
    Rachel

As for the gas smell ,you should get it looked at
The water bubbly sound is freon circulating through the copper pipe, normal
As for the hot copper pipe, you have two copper pipes,, one is insulated and the other is not, the uninsulated pipe will/should get pretty warm
