    My window a/c unit
    Hello guys,

Well I just have a ton of work to do around the house. To make matters worse, my window a/c unit is not working. The fan works but when I set to cool the compressor does not turn on. I've had it for about 4 yrs so I don't think it needs any freon. So my next guess would be the capacitor. How do I test the capacitor? Do I discharge it first? If so, how? Or do I test it without discharging first? Can I still use it if I discharge and that's not the problem? Open to any suggestions.

    Thanks guys.

I would check the cold control/thermostst first to make sure it is working.

If its digital you are probably toast since you will need the manufactures service manual for your exact unit and also will need some high quality electrical testing tools. The day of non factory service is almost over for they digital control style panels since one false move on your part can easily destroy and electronic control package. Usually these control systems are replaced by the factory service reps since no testing jigs are available to the consumer.
