My min-pin hasn't been vaccinated at all for the parvovirus mainly because it has never showed up where I live. But today I learn that two of my neighbors puppies have it and they have been outside using the restroom kind of close to me. I changed our usual walking routine to avoid the contaminated spots but I'm not sure if I did it early enough. My question is since he's 5 years old and never vaccinated could he catch it? If so what may happen to him? I appriciate any and all answers

Yes, he can still catch it even though he is 5 years old. He has not been vaccinated against it so he is susceptible to it.

What can happen? He could die, or if caught early, would become very sick but recover.

Parvo isn't common in my area (from what I've heard) but I believe strongly in getting the vaccination for it. A dog at any age can get it, and it can kill a dog at any age. I feel the same about the vaccination for kennel cough. A pup can get it and it can be fatal, an adult dog can get it and survive, but if you have your dog around a multitude of other dogs its better safe than sorry

I vaccinate mine at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16, weeks, 1 year and then only every 3-4 years after that. (yearly shots are unnecessary)

Yes your dog is open to the virus.. However, it is rare that an adult gets parvo. Typically adults that get parvo can fight the virus.

Parvo is a puppy disease. Typically, puppies that survive the disease won't get it again.. Kind of like chicken pox.

The virus will also attack dogs that have a very weak immune system. Sick dogs.. such as dogs with epilepsy, are more likely to get the virus as an adult. Also stressed out dogs can get the virus. Anything that will cause the immune system to weaken will open them up to catch Parvo.

You should get your dog vaccinated for the disease. But please keep in mind that even after the vaccinations, your dog can still get the virus. It does take time for the immune system to recognize the virus and learn what to do with it.

During this scare, just keep your dog home. Don't go to dog parks, pet stores that allow dogs in or other dog related activities. Keep your pup home and safe. To help out, you can feed your pup Vitamin C with Colloidal Silver. The combination will help keep your dogs immune system strong.

Aside from all that, I suggest the OP get their dog vaccinated. The Parvo virus is constantly mutating, and there are increasingly more cases in older dogs lately. It's a virus, and your dog is at risk of developing it.

Colloidal silver... aka the wonder drug! It use to be $100 per every four oz. During 1800 - 1900 it was very well used and recommended by a lot of doctors... unfortunately, the medical world couldn't make a lot of money on it which is why the antibiotics were invented and pushed.
